Shhh little baby...

Today was a rough day for Lucy and Mommy. Lucy did not want to leave Mommy's lap and cried at the slightest provocation. I think the shots left her sore and affected her appetite. She didn't eat or drink much today (which is a normal side effect of the shots.)

Lucy had her 12 month check up today. We were supposed to see Dr. Holly Loux at 11:30, but she had some medical problems of her own. So we ended up going to see Dr. James Pera at 5:30. Lucy and I really liked Dr. Pera and are going to keep seeing him. He is in the same office as Dr. Holly. Lucy is 17 pounds 4 ounces and healthy as a horse. Dr. Pera said he was very happy with how Lucy is growing and that she is perfectly healthy. He also advised us to create some ground rules and discipline guidelines now because the terrible twos actually start now and peak at two. He said that if we don't start now, then Lucy will be the boss before we know it. Lucy did really well with the shots. She only had to have two shots this time and she got a Daffy Duck sticker for being so good. She goes back the end of November for the last set of immunizations until kindergarten.

Mommy and Grandma Linda baked Lucy a yummy funfetti cake today. Lucy liked sticking her fingers in the cake and almost got the flame while Mommy was cheesing for this picture. Luckily Grandpa Ray was there to warn us.

Story Time

Grandma Linda and Grandpa Ray came to visit this weekend. They arrived a little after 6 last night. We went to Roundheads for pizza and then came home to play and open presents. http://www.roundheadspizza.com/ Lucy liked watching the loud softball players that were sitting behind us. And the grownups enjoyed talking. Our pizza took about an hour to cook, so we had loads of time. We got home after 9, but Lucy was still full of energy. She had a good time opening presents. (I didn't take pictures this time, but Ray and Linda have tons.) Lucy's favorite toy from Ray and Linda is a Dora the Explorer ride on toy. It makes lots of noise and she likes to push it. After all the present fun, we had to wind down so Grandma and Grandpa took turns reading stories. We finally got to bed at 11:30.

Feet First

Lucy likes to climb up on the couch. Especially if that is where Libby is sleeping. The photo on the right is of her getting down on her own after chasing Libby off . Jon and I have said, "Feet first" at least 500 times in the last few weeks. She hasn't had any head bonks off the couch for a while, so I think it is working. Libby is learning that baby is boss. She can either endure the ear poking or find somewhere else to sleep. I think she secretly likes the attention because she is always close by Lucy.

The second interview with the hospital went great! I met with Gary at 12:30 and I was walking out the door by 12:45. He said that he trusted Audra's judgment and he just wanted to make sure I was good people. He pretty much said welcome aboard, but I will find out for sure early next week.



Lucy is still poofy faced today and her nose is running like a fountain. I think she is teething. This is how she was when the other teeth came in and since she was poofy before we saw the animals I don't think it is an allergy. She does pretty well when she's not feeling good. Just a little more cuddly and slower than usual.

Lucy had lots of fun opening cards from Great Grandparents Brown and Manley, The Martz's and Uncle Christopher and Aunt Claudia. She also got packages from Grandparents Manley and Uncle Bill. We now have lots of Fisher Price toys. Lucy loves the Little People and blocks.

On another note, I got a call back on the hospital HR position. I go for a second interview tomorrow at 11am.

Happy Birthday Lucy

Happy 1st Birthday Lucy!!! Jon and I joked about going into Lucy's room at 1:24 AM and singing "Happy Birthday." Needless to say, we didn't do that.















Poor baby. Mommy decided we needed to do something super special to celebrate the big day, so we went to the Brookfield Zoo. http://www.brookfieldzoo.org/ On the way there, Lucy rubbed suncreen into her eyes and they got all poofy.




















We got to see lots of great animals, but Lucy liked looking at all the people more than the animals. She especially liked to hear the other kids make animal sounds. We learned today that a sheep says "Baaa" and a goat says "Maaa." Mommy and Daddy thought both said "Baaa."

Lucy was happy to get home and play with her toys. We will open presents and cards tonight after Daddy gets home and have cake with Ray and Linda this weekend.

Just think....this time last year Lucy was still in my belly. This picture was taken 7/18/06.

Look at my teeth

This picture shows Lucy's bottom teeth well. She has had the same five teeth for about four months. Lucy has started eating more table food lately. She sees the other kids at play group eating big kid food and she wants to too.

We had a busy morning today. I had an interview with the new Bolingbrook hospital. I would be an HR Associate helping the Recruiter fill 250 positions, and then after the hospital opens in Dec I would help with answering questions and growth/retention. I think it is a good fit for me and the best part is that the hours would be 9-2 Mon-Thur. I wasn't looking for a job, but I stumbled upon the position when I was researching the local hospitals. If they like me I will go for a second interview with the interim HR director .

Lucy stayed at the local KinderCare while I went to the interview. The center is in our neighborhood and the people are great. We visited a couple of times before today to check everything out. Lucy did well, she was sleeping in a swing when I picked her up. It took her about an hour to notice that I was gone. She was busy having snack time and playing with the other kids.

Lucy has discovered the fun of playing hide and seek. She puts her head in the desk and just giggles when Mommy can't find her.

This is Lucy's first attempt at coloring. Daddy went to San Antonio 7/15-7/17 for business. Lucy wanted to make sure Daddy found us at the airport, so we made this sign together. She was more interested in eating the crayons than coloring with them, but I think it turned out pretty well.

One of my goals for myself when we moved to Bolingbrook was to do a better job of keeping in touch with everyone. As you can see, I have not done a very good job of that.
